Cllr Debbie Fairhurst is a councillor with Cllr Angela Bland representing Shevington With Lower Ground. Cllr Debbie Fairhurst was elected alongside Cllr Angela Bland for the Shevington Ward in 2007.
Debbie is married to the Leader of the Party, Cllr Gareth Fairhurst, and they have 3 children, Gareth Jr, Thomas and Hannah.
Debbie believes passionately about family values and in doing the best for the Children of tomorrow. Debbie also believes that people should have the best option open to them and then let them choose how best to live their lives.
Debbie has sat on a number of committees and panels since being elected to Wigan Council. These include Children and Young People Panel and Adult, Health and Well-being Scrutiny Committee.
Cllr Debbie has been asked repeatedly about how the Parish Council can put up the parish council tax by 43% and get away with. The residents ask why they should have an additional tax when they get no extra services that other areas get from Wigan Council. She has found a way now to let the power go back to the people of Shevington and they should have the final say whether they want to have a parish council and pay the extra tax.
